What is KnowFlash?

KnowFlash.com is a source where you can learn Flash. By following our written and video tutorials you can learn how to use Flash. KnowFlash covers a range of areas including special effects, text effects, actionscript and more.

I can't see the images on the site, why?

This may be caused by a security program. Usually it's banners and advertisements that are blocked, so ensure KnowFlash is in your unblocked URL list, or you may not be able to view images and screenshots.

This could also occur if you have blocked the images from KnowFlash. Right click the location where the image should be and un-tick "Block images from..."

I'm having trouble with a video tutorial

Read the Video FAQ for help in that area.

What is a blog and why does it look different?

Blogs are online journals. The KnowFlash blog documents Flash thoughts, opinions and updates on KnowFlash. If you wish to view the network blog, rather than the one based on Flash, click here. The blog is powered by WordPress, which has a different look to the rest of the site. However we changed the header to the familiar KnowFlash colors.

You haven't replied to my feedback, how come?

We may be unable to individually reply to all feedback, although each email is read and used for future updates throughout the site.

Can I submit my Flash site to be listed in the Links category?

Yes. use the "Submit WebLink" form once you are logged in. The site will be reviewed and then approved, should it satisfy the guidelines. Although not essential, we would be grateful if you could provide a link to KnowFlash from your site, also.

How do I join, and what features are there?

You can join here. It is entirely free to join, and once you have registered you have unlimited access to all our video and written tutorials. You will also have access to our forum.

What are outtakes?

Outtakes are videos where something went wrong during the recording of a video tutorial.

Why are they here?

Purely for the entertainment value. They are usually pretty funny incidents so we put them online for you to enjoy..

Can I add my own tutorials?

Yes! We are looking for tutorials, both written and video. If you would like to submit a tutorial, use the feedback page to do so. You can also post your tutorial on the forum.

What's a FlashCast?

FlashCasts are a way of providing you with audio files of news and events around the site. You will probably know it best as a Podcast. FlashCasts are hosted by members of the KnowFlash staff and last a few minutes each.

What do I need to listen to a FlashCast?

The podcasts are in MP3 format, so you simply need a music player such as Windows Media Player. You can even transfer them onto your iPod or MP3 Player.

When I click "Download Now" it just streams, why?

If you have Quicktime then it will take charge and automatically stream it. However, if you right click the "Dowload Now" link and select "Save Target As..." (In Internet Explorer) or "Save Link As..." (Firefox), you can save the file to your hard drive.

Do you sell my email address to people?

No! We strictly oppose spam. We are normal people and receive countless amounts ourselves, and therefore know how annoying it can be.

Why do you need email addresses then?

We ask for your email address upon registration so we can email you if need be. If there is a problem or issue that needs to be resolved, we can communicate with you via email.

If Flash is so great, why isn't your site made with it?

The header is made in Flash, but there's a very good reason for the main site not being created with it. While Flash is great for effects and games, it's not as stable and secure with databases, which we need for our users and tutorials.

Sites that are made in Flash usually don't have forums or many of the other features that we have.

Can I donate, and how?

Please do. All donation earnings goes towards hosting costs. To donate, click the "Make A Donation" button in the top right hand corner of every page. If you have time, give the "Why Donate?" page a read.

Can I be a moderator on the forum?

We don't believe it's appropriate to assign moderator responsiblities to people we don't know. You have a high chance of becoming a moderator if you post on the forum often, with helpful posts.

Can I work for you?

We are not currently hiring, but when we do it will be announced through the site and the newsletter.

What is the newsletter?

The newsletter is our way of keeping you up to date with tutorials, FlashCasts, competitions and news from the site.  There are also discounts and exclusive tutorials. To find out more about the newsletter, click here. Members will automatically receive the newsletter.

How does the Store work?

The store is there to provide you with cheap Flash products from Amazon. You order through KnowFlash without having to leave the site, thanks to our secure checkout. To visit our shop, click here.
