Make a simple and great looking Glow text effect.
This tutorial doesn't require much skill or knowledge of Flash. It's a great way to make an outline around text, to create a modern looking text effect. You will need Flash 8 to complete this tutorial, as we will be adding a Glow filter.
So to begin, type your text onto the stage using the text tool. The font you choose will effect the outcome of the effect, but the color won't.

Next, convert your text to a symbol, by selecting it with the selection tool, and pressing F8. Select Movie Clip from the pop up box, and leave the name Symbol 1. Then press ok.

Now, make sure your new movie clip is selected, by clicking it with the selection tool. Now you need to go to the Filters tab, which is located next to where it says Properties, at the bottom of the screen.

This is where you can add various Filter effects to your symbols, such as drop shadow, blur, bevel and glow, which we will be using. Click the small blue plus sign to add a filter. Select Glow from the list. You will then be shown several options to customize the glow. Make sure the Quality of the Glow is set to "High". Select the color of the glow from the "Color" swatch. In this example, I'm using black. You can see as you change these properties that the text effect is updated in real time. At this stage it won't look too impressive.
The last few steps are as follows. Increase the strength of the Blur via the Strength slider. Increase it to 1000%. Leave the Blur X and Blur Y to 5 each. Now, once you have done that, you can see there are two check boxes, called Knockout and Inner Glow. Select Knockout. After thse stages, your Glow properties should look like this

Your text should have a very nice looking glow effect. The final effect can be seen below. You can experiment with the effect by changing the properties. If you had a problem with this tutorial, tell us about it on the forum.
